What is Sumatriptan?

Sumatriptan is a medication used to treat migraine attacks, it belongs to a group of medicines called triptans (also known as 5-HT1 receptor agonists).

What is migraine?

Migraine is a common headache disorder, affecting around 1 in every 5 women and around 1 in every 15 men. A migraine is usually characterised by a moderate to severe headache, felt as a throbbing pain on one side of the head.

What are the symptoms of a migraine?

Migraine main symptom includes throbbing or pulsating headache on one side of the head. Usually associated with additional symptoms such as feeling sick or being sick and increased sensitivity to light and sound. The symptoms may vary from one individual to another and some may experience the additional symptoms without the headache. Also, migraine symptoms can last between 4 hours to 3 days.

How does Sumatriptan work?

Migraine symptoms may be caused by the temporary widening of blood vessels in the head. Sumatriptan is believed to reduce the widening of these blood vessels. This in turn helps to take away the headache and relieve other symptoms of a migraine attack, such as feeling or being sick (nausea or vomiting) and sensitivity to light and sound. You can also buy Sumatriptan online from Pillhub.

How should Sumatriptan be used?

Sumatriptan should be taken as soon as possible after migraine symptoms start. If your symptoms go but then return, you can take another tablet as long as it is 2 hours after the first. Do not take more than 2 tablets within a 24 hour period, and do not take more than 1 tablet for the same migraine attack.

Is Sumatriptan suitable for me?

Sumatriptan is a popular migraine relief tablet that is suitable for those aged 18 to 65 who have been diagnosed with migraines by either a pharmacist or doctor. It is not suitable for those who are not diagnosed by a pharmacist or doctor, those who have had a heart attack or stroke, those with a blood vessel, liver, or kidney problem, those with epilepsy, or those on certain medications. It is not advised to take a sumatriptan 100 mg tablet while you are pregnant unless told otherwise by a medical professional. Do not take Sumatriptan if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
