What is acne?
Acne is a very common skin problem that affects the face, back, or chest area. It is characterised by blockage and clogging of the pores creating spots that are inflammatory, non-inflammatory, or a combination of both.
Teens are not the only ones who get acne. Adults, especially women find lots of breakouts even after their teen years. Acne in women can be stubborn and frustrating and can affect one’s self-esteem. However, the good news is that acne can be treated successfully with the help of various acne treatment products.
There are a number of factors that are responsible for causing acne. This includes
• Excess oil
• Dirty face
• A build-up of dead skin cells in the pore
• Inflammation
• Growth of acne-causing bacteria
So, it is important to take care of your skin and follow a good skincare routine to treat your acne. You can look for good acne treatment products according to your skin type.
However, if your acne isn’t getting any better, it is suggested to consult a dermatologist for a stronger treatment option. A dermatologist may prescribe you a cleanser or acne treatment gel.
Pillhub offers a variety of prescription skincare products to tackle acne. You can buy the best acne gel for pimples with few simple clicks. If unsure of which product to start with, then chat to our expert pharmacists via our live chat option for further advice.
What causes acne?
Acne is most commonly associated with changes in hormone levels during puberty, although it can also be related to hormonal changes that occur during the menstrual cycle and during pregnancy in women. Acne is also known to run in families – if both of your biological parents had acne, it is likely that you will too. It is caused by an overgrowth of the P. acnes bacteria on the skin.
How should you look after your skin when you have acne?
It is important not to try and “clean out” or remove blackheads, or squeeze spots, as this may make acne worse and cause potential scarring. Instead, take good care of your skin, washing it with mild soap and water a maximum of twice a day, and removing any makeup or products before you sleep. Acne is not caused by poor hygiene but doing this can help prevent acne from worsening.
