Thrush
Thrush is a common fungal infection that can affect both men and women, although women tend to be more prone to the condition and are likely to experience it at some point in their life. It can be transferred through sexual activity, but it is not classified as an STI (sexually transmitted infection). It can be painful and cause significant discomfort, but it is a highly treatable condition. A number of different treatment options are available, including oral treatment, creams, and internal treatment.

What is thrush?
Thrush is a fungal infection that most commonly affects the areas around the genitals, but can also be found elsewhere on the body such as the armpits or between the fingers.
What are the symptoms of thrush?
In women, thrush can usually be identified by white odourless vaginal discharge, irritation and itching around the vagina, and stinging or soreness when you pass urine or when you have sex.
In men, thrush can be identified by a white discharge, an unpleasant smell, irritation or a burning sensation around the head of the penis and under the foreskin, and difficulty pulling back the foreskin.
Thrush affecting other areas of the skin can cause red, itchy, or painful rashes.
How can thrush be treated?
Thrush is usually treated with antifungal medication administered orally, through external creams, internal creams, or pessaries (medication inserted into the vagina). Thrush is a highly treatable condition, and in some cases only requires one dose of treatment to remove.
