What is Zomig?

Zomig is an anti-migraine medication for use in those between the ages of 18 and 65. It contains the active ingredient zolmitriptan, a type of serotonin 5-HT receptor agonist.

What is migraine? 

Migraine is a common headache disorder, affecting around 1 in every 5 women and around 1 in every 15 men. A migraine is usually characterised by a moderate to severe headache, felt as a throbbing pain on one side of the head.

What are the symptoms of a migraine? 

Migraine main symptom includes throbbing or pulsating headache on one side of the head. Usually associated with additional symptoms such as feeling sick or being sick and increased sensitivity to light and sound. The symptoms may vary from one individual to another and some may experience the additional symptoms without the headache. Also, migraine symptoms can last between 4 hours to 3 days.

How does Zomig work?

Zomig works through the active ingredient zolmitriptan, a serotonin 5-HT receptor agonist. The zolmitriptan helps to constrict and narrow the swollen blood vessels in the head that cause some migraine attacks.

How should Zomig be taken?

Zomig should be taken as soon as a migraine attack starts. If your migraine returns, you can take a second dose only if 2 hours have passed since you first took the medication. You can take a maximum of two doses in a day. Zomig tablets should start to work after approximately one hour.

Is Zomig suitable for me?

Zomig is suitable for the treatment of migraine attacks in those aged 18-65. Do not take Zomig if you have high blood pressure, have heart problems, have had a stroke, or if you are taking other medications for migraines. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a healthcare professional before starting treatment. Do not take Zomig if you are allergic to zolmitriptan or any of its other ingredients.
