What is Ovex Suspension?
Ovex suspension contain mebendazole which is effective in treating many worm infections, including threadworms. Ovex suspension contains 6 x 5ml treatments of 100mg mebendazole to allow multiple household members to undergo the treatment at the same time.
How does Ovex work?
Ovex works by stopping the threadworms from being able to get glucose from a person’s body, which they need to survive. After a few days without this energy source, threadworms die.
How do I take Ovex?
Only one 5ml dose is required per person. If one member of your household is infected with threadworms, then every member of your household should take a dose of Ovex, regardless of whether they are experiencing symptoms.
How long does Ovex take to work?
Ovex should kill the threadworms within a few days. If symptoms persist beyond two weeks or re-infection is possible, another dose can be taken after 2 weeks. If treatment does not seem to be working, consult with your doctor.
Is Ovex suitable for me?
Ovex is suitable for adults and children over 2 years. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have an allergy to mebendazole then consult your doctor before taking Ovex. Do not take Ovex suspension and Ovex tablets at the same time as this will increase the likelihood of side effects.
How can I prevent spreading threadworms?
After taking the medication, it is important to follow strict hygiene measures, including:
- washing daily
- washing your hands often, including scrubbing under the fingernails
- clean using disinfectant, vacuum, and dust often
- wash all clothes and bedding which have come into contact with infected individuals
Following these guidelines should help eliminate the infection and reduce the likelihood of re-infection.
