What is Mebeverine?
Mebeverine is an oral treatment for the relief of IBS symptoms. It works through the active ingredient mebeverine hydrochloride, which belongs to a group of medications known as antispasmodics.
How does Mebeverine work?
Mebeverine works through the active ingredient mebeverine hydrochloride – a type of antispasmodic medication. This helps to relax the muscles in the gastrointestinal tract (the gut). This helps to relieve spasm, pain, and other symptoms of IBS such as bloating.
How should Mebeverine be used?
Mebeverine should ideally be taken approximately 20 minutes before a meal. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water, not crushed or chewed. The medication should be stored out of the sight and reach of children, in a dry place below 30 Celsius and out of direct sunlight. Do not take more than 3 doses in one day.
Is Mebeverine suitable for me?
Mebeverine is suitable for use by those over the age of 18. It is not suitable for use by children. Do not take Mebeverine if you are allergic to mebeverine or any of its other ingredients. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a healthcare professional before you start using this medication.
